Alejandro Porras

Hi, my name is Alejandro R. Porras and I am currently a sophomore studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame.

Alejandro R. Porras, born in El Paso, TX, is currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. He is involved in many activities at Notre Dame including HES (Hispanic Engineers & Scientists), Joint Engineering Council, La Alianza and NDSEED (Notre Dame Empowering through Engineering Design). NDSEED is a great and highly selective Engineering Service Project that aims to connect rural communities stricken with poverty in Latin America and the Caribbean to greater opportunities through cooperative design and construction of footbridges that span otherwise impassable rivers through a fundraising, design, and construction effort. This project empowers communities by helping advance their economic prosperity, access to schools, clinics, jobs, and markets. Alejandro embraces these opportunities to not just grow as a person and future engineer but to make a significant difference in the world and continue being an example to the youth of El Paso and elsewhere. He also enjoys playing soccer and dancing; in spring 2012, Alejandro was assistant choreographer and performer in the biggest cultural show on campus, Latin Expressions.
